Eatin' good in the neighborhood
In between registering at Baby's R Us and Target, we decided to take our friends' suggestions and get in a few pre-baby date nights this week. We took advantage of Denver's 5280 Restaurant Week and enjoyed delicious steaks at Cool River Cafe last Saturday and a 3 course fondue menu at La Chateau last night. Restaurant Week in Denver is the best time to get a great deal at some of the fanciest restaurants. Dinner for 2 costs $52.80 (everyone's really proud that we are a mile high around here). We also saw Slumdog Millionaire today and would highly recommend it. Probably not going to travel to India anytime soon though...

A place to rest his head
We made our first big purchase for the little one. We figured that a crib would be a good place to start because it was something that he would need early and it would be an easy decision.... Wrong! We're slowly learning that nothing is easy. We made several trips to Baby's R Us and other baby furniture stores in the area only to find hundreds of different styles, colors, and varying options, like if it converts into a toddler/full size bed. We finally decided that we liked a caramel colored crib made by Cocoon. But to make things more complicated, we didn't like the size of the drawers on the matching dresser. So, we thought we'd look at other places for a matching dresser. More driving around, more choices, more frustration. "Caramel" is apparently not the most popular color at any furniture store. Then we went back to the store that had the crib we liked and compared that color to other dresser sets and found one that matched in a chestnut color. It's a seven drawer double dresser (short and wide) made by Baby's Dream in the Generation Next collection. It will be delivered in a few weeks, which will give us some time to paint and decorate the nursery in the meantime.

It costs what?!
Last weekend there was an open house for a new childcare facility opening in March that is just down the street from where we live, so we thought that we would check it out. It's called The Goddard School and it sounds like it is going to be an amazing facility that is safe and will provide lots of stimulating interaction for the little one. However, we (OK, at least David) had a little sticker shock when we found out that it would cost over $1000 a month for full time child care. I guess that's what we get for being naive first time parents. Upon looking into it more, it seems that this is actually the norm these days. We have some time to look at other places, but we've got good news... we just saved a bunch of money on our car insurance.

He moved!
For about a week now, Shannon has felt movements in her belly, but I've always missed them. She'd tell me that he was kicking, and so for 5-10 minutes I'd have my hand on her belly and... nothin! Well Wednesday night, I finally felt him kick when he was doing his best Beckham impersonation. We'll see if the excitement wears off when he is that active at 3 am.
Also, we want to thank everyone for their suggestions for boy names. Feel free to post them, but don't be disappointed if we do not use it. A few that we have got so far that we may or may not use are:
- Donovan
- Muhammad ("its the most commonly used name on earth")
- Jordan
- Jesus (just a reminder... we have very, very light skin)
- Lincoln

You've got questions... We've got answers
The 2 biggest questions we've been getting are: do you know what you're having, and when is your due date? (Drum roll...)

We are 99% sure we saw "boy parts" on the ultrasound, unfortunately we do not yet have a boy name picked out. We've decided to take our time in choosing the names, but will keep it a secret until the little one arrives. As far as all the other stuff on the ultrasound, everything looked good, which was a relief. Secondly, the approximate due date is June 26th, but your guess is as good as ours. Here are some pics from the latest ultrasound. Enjoy!
